Managing Your Autistic Child’s Behaviour Across All Settings:

Hi everyone, I will be giving a free talk on managing autistic children's behaviours across all settings. Both parents and educators will find this talk to be highly informative, regardless of the functioning levels of their autistic children.

Below is a synopsis of the talk and details:

Many parents are overwhelmed by the challenges of the inappropriate social behaviours of their autistic children in the homes, in schools and the public settings. Gain some insight into various behavioural and sensory strategies from Choo Kah Ying, mother of a ten-year-old autistic child and author of Raising Sebastien: Reflections and Practical Suggestions on Realising the Potential of Your Autistic Child (to be published by Marshall Cavendish and available in bookstores in September 2006). In this highly interactive session with a Q & A segment, parents will have the opportunity to pose specific questions regarding their autistic child. More importantly, parents will be empowered to take charge of these distressing situations by setting the right expectations, enforcing rules consistently and maintaining their objectivity.

Open House of World of Autism, in Conjunction with Kampung Senang Charity & Education Foundation’s Learning to Learn Centre

I am pleased to announce that I will be having an Open House for the World of Autism, in conjunctions with KS’ new Learning to Learn Centre (Tampines) at Blk 254, Tampines St. 21, #01-464. This centre will provide diverse services for children with special needs including autism, as well as their families. Mr. James Lam and I will be giving a talk on special learning needs and autism respectively at 3:30 p.m. Parents will also have the opportunity to pose questions about their children, look at our exhibits and enroll their children in our programmes. While parents are attending the talk, a magician will be on hand to provide entertainment for the children.

Because the Open House will be held at the same time as KS’ celebration of Racial Harmony Day with Tampines East Zone 4 RC, there will also be bonding activities, fun-filled games, delightful performances and organic food at the Festival Park and the void deck. Minister Mah Bow Tan will also arrive to officially open the centre.

This should be an exciting and fun-filled day for all families, while addressing the concerns of families with children with special needs. Hope you all can make it.

Day: Sunday, July 23, 2006

Time: 2:45 to 8:00 p.m.
